Every Piece of equipment incorporated into the MAX NANO G2 XL is REEF-SPEC – which is the criteria that represents the idea conditions required in an aquarium for sustaining coral health and optimizing coral growth of all kinds. Based on RED Sea’s 30 years of research on the needs of corals in artificial environments.

REEF-SPEC Lighting
Our long term research into the photobiological needs of corals in artificial environments has led to the REEF-SPEC lighting criteria, which is the basis for the lighting configurations used in all Red Sea aquarium systems.

REEF-SPEC Filtration
The heart of the MAX NANO G2 XL filtration system is the NANO XL protein skimmer, which removes the vast majority of the waste produced y the aquarium inhabitants, as well ad thoroughly oxygenating the water.

REEF-SPEC Circulation
The MAX NANO G2 XL provides REEF-SPEC water flow which is crucial for providing corals and other sessile invertebrates with the nutrients and mineral necessary for growth.

1. Surface skimmer

The surface skimmer enables highly effective filtration by ensuring that only water from the aquarium surface is passed to the rear filtration compartment. The surface skimmer is easily removable for periodic cleaning.

2. Pump power center

The MAX NANO G2 XL has a built-in power center with conveniently located on/off switches for the skimmer and circulation pumps, enabling easy access for feeding and maintenance.

3. ReefLED lighting

The MAX NANO G2 XL incorporates Red Sea’s ReefLED 50 light, with a light intensity and spectrum that is 100% utilized by the corals, ensuring optimal coral growth and coloration. In addition, the ReefLED 50 has a Moonlight channel to provide low levels of light for reef-safe nighttime viewing.

The LED unit is firmly bolted to the aquarium and can be rotated to give easy access to the rear sump for all of regular maintenance requirements or for reefscaping.

4. Automatic top-off


An automatic top-off unit with a 2.7 liter/ 0.7 gal freshwater reservoir (hidden behind the screen above the sump) maintains a constant water level, and is sufficient for approximately 2 days of evaporation.

5. Rotatable rear sump screen

The rotatable screen allows easy access to the rear filtration compartment sump, while ensuring that the aquarium’s aesthetics are undisturbed.

6. Ultra-clear glass

The MAX NANO G2 XL has a rimless design and is made from 10 mm, ultra-clear glass which provides a superb viewing experience.

7. Micron filter bag

The 225 micron filter bag removes large waste particles from the water.

8. Protein skimmer

The heart of the filtration system is Red Sea’s NANO XL protein skimmer that efficianly removes organic waste from the water.

9. Multidirectional eyeball nozzle

The filtered water returns to the display tank via a multidirectional, adjustable eyeball nozzle, ensuring there are no stagnant spots within the aquarium

10. Dedicated media chamber

The rear sump includes a dedicated media chamber for additional chemical filtration, such as Red Sea’s REEF-SPEC carbon, that is supplied with the MAX NANO.

11. Bubble trap sponge

The bubble trap sponge prevents air bubbles from returning to the aquarium.

12. Circulation pump 

The 1550 liter per hour Sicce return pump circulates the entire system water volume about 10 times an hour.

13. Marine-spec cabinet (optional)

The MAX NANO G2 XL is available with an optional marine-spec laminate cabinet fronted with weatherproof epoxy painted doors, convenient push openers and soft close stainless steel hinges.

14. Carbon

The MAX NANO G2 XL is supplied with 100 grams of Red Sea’s REEF-SPEC carbon, enough to maintain crystal clear water for the first 2 months.

ReefATO+ and NanoMat ready rear sumps

The MAX NANO G2 XL is ReefATO+ ready, allowing you to benefit from an extremely reliable auto top-off, temperature monitor and leak detector.

The MAX NANO G2 XL also has a removable filter sock compartment that is replaceable with the NanoMat- an enhanced mechanical filter with an auto-advance fleece-roll mechanism that keeps your aquarium water crystal clear.

Fully equipped rear sump

The filtration & circulation systems are hidden in a rear sump that is topped by a rotatable screen for easy access.
The water is filtered by a removable surface skimmer for easy cleaning, a bespoke 225-micron filter sock, a quiet REEF-SPEC NANO XL protein skimmer, a media chamber with 100g of REEF-SPEC Carbon, and a bubble trap.
The water is circulated by a 1550lph/410gph Sicce return pump, and returns to the display via a multidirectional, adjustable nozzle.
The rear sump includes an auto top-off with an RO reservoir, and is both ReefATO+ and NanoMat-ready.
